Case study

Brief

The world’s largest travel company for students and young people, STA Travel approached Quad Vision to develop dynamic displays for their in-store customer experience. The brief was to provide high-impact video initially across multiple screens within a retail environment. The technology was especially focused on a young demographic, so needed to be bright, highly engaging and ‘state-of-the-art.’ STA travel wanted an AV partner who could keep pace with the ever-shifting needs and wants of their ‘millennial’ audience – in particular, to embed and leverage social media into their in-store experience.

The Solution

Quad Vision developed an in-store media experience that was piloted in STA Travel’s London Clapham store. Following further installations in London Victoria, High Street Kensington, Leeds Vicar Road and Goodge Street, the Quad Vision media experience was rolled out nationally and now encompasses a significant number of installations across the UK. The latest installations being Cambridge, Plymouth and Liverpool.

Operating in shop windows and also in-store under a variety of lighting conditions, each media display requires exceptional luminosity to engage both in-store customers and external footfall. For each retail outlet, Quad Vision generally specified high-definition ultra-thin bezel screens of varying sizes, providing a minimum 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Shop windows require highly bright screens so that images are vivid and punch out. Even on a sunny day! Quad Vision screens are specified to provide exceptional luminosity. Also, media content needs to be refreshed daily – so remote management is critical if you have 30 + stores!

Across the STA estate there are a combination of multi screen and single large format display (LFD) screen installations. More recently STA have preferred Samsung 55″ LFD installations, these being more economical and therefore allowing a great number of stores to benefit from digital display signage. The Samsung 55″ LFD high brightness screen also allows stores with smaller shop fronts and space issues the opportunity to take part in the roll out.

Each store is provided with a Quad Vision video wall controller running either Buzz Radar or eSign software, allowing content to be updated and managed remotely. Each media display carries a wide variety of media types such as video, image stills, adobe flash, web pages and social media feeds – one recent development has been to capture the STA Travel customer adventure experience: a live Twitter feed further reaches out and connects with the young audience demographic!

Within STA Travel’s flagship London and Bristol stores, Quad Vision installed 65” & 75” high-definition touch-screens. This allowed highly engaging media content to be displayed and allowed retail staff to conduct talks using the interactive screens.

Quad Vision provides full installation and commissioning across all retail sites across the UK. The STA Travel marketing team is trained on managing and remotely updating content across multiple retail sites.

Quad Vision partners STA Travel providing ongoing specialist support through a Service Level Agreement (SLA), taking part in weekly support meetings to ensure the screen estate is optimised and providing telephone and online diagnostic support direct with stores.
