Case study

Brief

One of London’s largest independent Estate Agency, Douglas & Gordon required a high-impact video-wall to demonstrate properties and location. The system was to be fully interactive to filter home searches with defined parameters and visually show important services, distances to schools and transport links. As well as providing functionality, the video-wall needed to work as a marketing aid to attract people to the shop window. One of the big challenges was that the video-wall was to be positioned at the back of the premises! So it needed to be large and bright enough to have maximum impact from the shop window.

The Solution

A bespoke 9-screen solution using thin-bezel screens was proposed to fit within the tight constraints of the premises.

Quad Vision designed and installed a wall-mounted display measuring 138″ across the diagonal. Comprising of 9-screens, care was taken not to restrict access to the stairway in any way. So Quad Vision chose ultra-thin bezel screens to get as close to the wall as possible.

These were mounted on a bespoke framework specially designed and constructed to meet the brief. Suitable ventilation was installed above the screens to keep the technology and surrounding area cool (as they would be working out of hours in addition to a full working day).

ISSUES: Access was difficult and screens had to be installed in a restricted area right above a stairwell. Specialty scaffolding had to be erected to reach the wall on which to mount the bespoke framework. The mechanical depth of the monitors and framework had to be a suitable depth so as not to protrude into the stairway.

Media is dynamically controlled via an iPad and content can be updated and administered remotely whilst the wall is running. The video wall, controller and software can play full-screen flash videos, still images or a mix of media. Options are pre-set which can show nine separate high-definition images, one image over the whole area or a mix of media at the touch of a button.

The wall supports 4K x 2K media over the whole wall and 1920 x 1080 media on each of the nine displays. This super high-resolution maintains the quality of the content. The high impact HD screens and interactivity make for an exciting visual experience.

A fabulous user-experience allows sales people and customers to use the iPad as an interactive interface to find their best property. Searches can be operated by location showing a live map highlighting the nearest tube stations, tube lines and schools. Filters can drill down on the property search including buy/rent, number of bedrooms, budget range ‘from & to’ etc. Results are displayed as a property listing complete with scrollable gallery of images, together with property details with an insert screen showing positioning on the map.

Animated wallpapers can run as a background presentation when there is no customer interaction. When the shop is closed, the wall transforms into an art installation with fabulous imagery to grab attention and draw people towards the shop window. Content is supplied by Squint Opera, a creative digital design company.
