Case study: Gibtelecom
“We are used to providing a fast-response time for our clients, but with a Gibraltar-based installation, this added an extra dimension! I’m delighted to say that we were able to meet Gibtelecom's urgent requirement with time to spare!” Sanjay Saini
Brief
Gibtelecom is Gibraltar's largest telecommunications provider offering fixed, mobile and Internet services. Following rapid growth of online services within the betting and gambling industries, local broadband demand exploded. Gibtelecom needed a fast solution to monitor their network traffic and cope with demand.Their requirement was to display and position a myriad of data streams for network operations traffic and management tools as multiple URL pages in a live NOC (Network Operations Centre) environment. Operations Centre team members also needed a virtual tool to collaborate and share using the real-time data feeds.
Solution

Quad Vision was able to provide an ultra-fast interim solution that was rapidly deployed to Gibraltar. This comprised of 16 x 32” high-resolution screens, installed as a mobile unit due to tight timescales and space restrictions on-site.

As the project was both international AND a super fast turn-around solution, the brief and communications were done remotely. Initially, an interim mobile solution was commissioned, perfect to solve the fast-turnaround issue. This was quickly scaled up to a fixed solution at double the original size to cope with rocketing demand.

Over the next 24 months, broadband demand continued to soar. Quad Vision was commissioned to double the size of the video wall! With a total of 32 high-resolution screens, the installation was made permanent by building a wall around a bespoke Quad Vision frame, robust enough to hold the considerable weight of 32 screens.

This 32-screen combined ‘video and data wall’ displays multiple feeds from urls, managegement tools and telecoms applications. To provide collaborative tools, Quad Vision developed two interactive virtual whiteboards integrated into the display. This allows individuals to collaborate and share data using meta-data from the main display. Team operatives can update or edit easily from their workstations using live data.

Managing the 32-screens through their existing intranet requires complex software. For example, content is managed using the Quad Vision eSign digital signage software, which allows the team to open multiple web pages robustly.

As part of the specification, Gibtelecom required alternative screen-layouts displaying across single or 4-screens. Quad Vision provided a series of pre-set screen configurations with an easy user interface allowing the user to switch between multiple layouts at the ‘touch-of-a button.’

In addition, administrators can control the wall easily over a network interface.
