Case study

Brief

Portsmouth NHS approached Quad Vision after developing a software solution which would allow them to display ward maps and associated reporting digitally on an interactive touch screen as opposed to being handwritten on a white board. In anticipation of rolling this new software solution out across the hospital, Portsmouth NHS were looking to source screens which were fit for purpose. Portsmouth NHS had worked successfully with Quad Vision previously on a different project and so naturally came back to us for assistance. Being in a hospital ward location there were some important factors at play, not least screen brightness levels but also power usage and heat emissions. Importantly the screen and mount would be subjected to a high standard of deep cleaning for infection control it was a prerequisite for the design to accommodate this.

The Solution

Quad Vision designed and manufactured a custom mounting solution which encompasses a 55-inch touch display screen, a PC controller and all cables integrally in one neat and tidy unit. A white hard wearing powdered coated finish ensuring ease of cleaning.

The screen technology uses a sensor-grid of micro-fine wires integrated into the glass that covers the screen. Electrical characteristics of the sensor grid change when touch is detected. Thanks to the glass overlay this technology is highly durable, and the touch function remains unaffected even if the glass is scratched. It offers perfect picture performance and will work with touch (also latex gloved) and stylus-pen.

After the initial prototype was approved a further 38 screen systems were ordered and are due to be installed across the hospital boosting effective ward communication throughout the institution.

Further development is in the pipeline with the NHS for a software system to monitor and manage the screen settings without the need for a remote control.

Quad Vision were delighted to work with NHS Portsmouth on the project, the bespoke framed screens coupled with the software solution make for a much improved and technologically advanced bed management and team/patient information system.
